22 Years and Not Stopping

So, yesterday was my birthday and I turned 22-years-old. I had been very – what’s the word… nervous about turning 22. It felt so old – I would not be 18, 20 or even 21 but actually 22. It’s towards 25 which is a cornerstone for me so that I would have done something significant with my life by then...

Yesterday I slept late and took a long, hot shower. We had thought about to go to eat outside but it is rather painful and difficult task trying to find vegan or vegetarian places for a reasonable prices – and when I finally find some place which serves tofu, I can not pay 13 euros for a piece of tofu when I can get a block of tofu from a store for half a price! AND almost every side dish was cooked in duck fat (
what the f..?) and cost from 2 to 6 euros - and it's not that I can't afford it, but it is all for principle. But that's that... So, in the end we decided to get our reliable hot sandwiches from a café downtown and go home to eat them with a glass of wine.

I really didn’t expect it but my mom got me a beautiful, big, white rose for my birthday (is it becoming a tradition already?) – but this time it was with a crystal and glitter:

I didn’t expect anything from anyone but my dad gave me money so I can buy a new cellphone (because my phone is antique by now, no internet, no nothing) and my mom got me this beautiful skirt:

On this birthday I didn’t bake a whole cake, but I baked “mokkapaloja” (mocha bites?) which is kind of Finnish chocolate brownies (but not as sweet, heavy or greasy as the traditional brownies), where the topping is made of cocoa powder, coffee, powdered sugar and vegan margarine (for I like to keep all of my baked goods vegan). Just google it, for God's sake! ;)

About my age now... I tend to compare my age to how the people of the Victorian Era saw it; a lady would be a spinster if not dutifully married by the time she reached 25 years of age. Luckily I haven't even realized that I'm 22-year-old now, so it's not that big of a shock. Oh well... Maybe I become more accustomed to it in the coming days. At least, I don’t seem to stress about it as much as I did before my actual birthday. Now I seem just okay with it...

Class Meeting / Birthday Party / Housewarming Party

Yesterday I had my birthday party. Actually, it was s group birthday party because many of my friends has also turned 21-years-old lately. And also it was kind of my housewarming party for I have never invited anyone here since we have moved and this was the first time people gathered around in the same place under this roof. And it was also a class meeting between us old classmates and one of my dearest friend who is accepted to the group even he has not been on the same class. So a lot at once. But a lot of fun too!

Everyone brought something, candy, chips or something to drink. My favourite was green apple liqueur one of my friend brought with him. He also brought 80 vol booze which tasted what hand sanitizer smell like and it evaporated in the mouth. I didn’t drink that than just a little tiny bit. It was brought from Estonia.

The first guest came right before 5 o’clock when I was in the middle of doing my makeup in my super sexy loose home pants. I put on my mascara and changed clothes while my mom was talking to my friend. Then the people started to come but first they had to find where I lived for it doesn’t show on GPS and Google Maps says here’s nothing but a field with a few steel beams. Last of my friends came at 7 ‘clock and I was just in the middle of doing the pizza dough but we managed to hug anyway. I made pizza for food, meat pizza for everyone else and a vegetable pizza for myself. I had also made raspberry punch for drink which got a lot of praises.

We came along very, very well even we hadn’t seen each other in a long time. We talked all day and evening, the TV was on the background but no one needed to watch it anyway. Two of my friends left at the evening to their own birthday party and we were left talking the night away. The whole day stretched until midnight when I was snoozing on my dear friend’s chest half asleep. Then after midnight the rest of the guests left together to the main road and to the nearest bus stop to get home. I had a great night with all of my dear friends! I can’t wait for next time. Maybe a summer picnic..?

The cats had absolutely loved when there are more petting hands around. Okay, the other one was more shy but the other one meowed and brought toy mouses and begged for attention on everyone’s laps.

After everyone had left I washed away my makeup and get to bed right after everyone had left and got a good night sleep.

I didn’t expect any gifts but one of my dearest friends got me one. I was so surprised when she handed it to me. And when I opened I was absolutely amazed. She had got me a makeup brush set with 34 different makeup brushes because she knew I apply my eye shadow by my fingers – like I did yesterday. But I don’t have to do so no more! I didn’t dare take off the plastic wrappings yet but soon enough. I asked makeup tips from my friend and how to wash my brushes the right way for I cherish these brushes! I can’t wait to use them the first time! Today has been a lazy day with no makeup on.

I end this with a quote by Madame Lily Bollinger:

"I only drink champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not in a hurry and drink it when I am, otherwise I never touch the stuff unless I am thirsty."

21 years

Today was my birthday. On midnight we popped sparkling wine and celebrated that I was 21-year-old. I also got a phone call from my dad who is abroad which was a very nice surprise to hear his voice again. We watched a Finnish movie “Tie Pohjoiseen” (starring Samuli Edelmann and Vesa-Matti Loiri) with my mom and then we went to sleep.

On the next morning I slept late and after I had woken up I started to read. I got breakfast in bed (bread with vegan chorizo, soy yoghurt with muesli, hazelnut coffee and sparkling wine). I read all morning and day and it was heavenly just stay beneath the sheets and read on.

We had gone to buy me a birthday bouquet with a great big white rose and eucalyptus leaves and other leaves and flowers. I put the bouquet in a crystal vase immediately after I got home.

Today’s outfit:

top ~ Vila / bolero ~ Morticia / skirt ~ Morticia / shoes ~ second hand

Today we went to eat in a restaurant. I ordered tofu burger and a cold apple cider.

Later that night I watched “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” and was on computer drinking white wine. My birthday was very relaxed and enjoyable with no hurry whatsoever. I like birthdays like these. I have decided to throw a birthday party next month attempting to get as much people there as possible. It feels good to be 21-year-old – I haven’t really get it yet but in some way I do.

"We gonna party like it's your birthday...”

Well it’s not my “official” birthday anymore, although my B-Day par-tay were!

I had been so extremely stressed about this days before and while losing my good night sleep over this I was actually afraid whether I’m going to snap – but in the end I didn’t explode all over the walls after all. I acted as cool as I could and little does anyone know that I was actually dyeing my hair the night before, way after midnight and took the damn cake out of the over around 6… A.M.!!
I was stressed about the cake, because with my “luck” I manage to fuck everything up at the last moment (totally unintentionally). My mom had woken up and helped me with the cake and with words “this is NO time for a person to bake a cake” she went downstairs and back to bed. I finished the cake and went to bed also. Luckily I got two of my friends to help me with the arrangements on the day a few hours of the party. One of them took care of the punch and I had given him open hands.

After getting all the food done and after getting properly dressed I could join the guests. We talked, ate and laughed.

I could’ve decorated it somehow but it didn’t occur to me in the hurry. But it tasted good, that’s better than a prettiest cake on earth that doesn’t taste very good?

I'd asked everyone to bring a few DVD’s (oh yes, I'm ancient) with them so we could watch a movie. We watched “The Bounty Hunter” and ate cake. After the movie we did our bravura and sang karaoke.  Hell yeah!!

The whole day repaid all the stress and after all I felt so very relieved and happy I had decided to do this. Because otherwise I would not have known what I would have missed. After so long I felt so beautiful and not forgotten by people and after everyone had left and after I washed my makeup off, I went to bed tired but feeling so good in a long time.

Looking surprisingly sharp at that hour and as feeling prettier than a long time I wanted to have a proper photo taken from me to remember.

The table. That biggest piece of cake is (obviously) mine...

The punch. At first it didn’t seem like it was dwindling but suddenly as the night went on it felt like “where have all the punch disappeared?”

Elisa made a beautiful braid and I kept it on as long as I could and I felt sad to open such a pretty braid before I went to sleep. Note: I was looking through the old photos and realized that on 2007 at my birthday I was made a similar braid. Pretty cool... But the one Elisa made was actually way better.

20th Birthday

Sooo, today nothing really felt different like I had been thinking would something feel different somehow. It’s basically just another birthday but this time round 20 years. I was quite peaceful and the fact that my age now started with a number 2 instead of the old “boring” 1 - I felt actually very, very nice and different but in a good way!

We both wished good birthday to each other around midnight with my twin brother. Our mother did so too but she’s so also as traditional that she like to wish happy birthday “officially” at the time we were born, 45 minutes earlier to my brother because he is exact 45 minutes older than me.

I had decided to celebrate my b-day with my mom (girl power!) and we went to movies to see “Puss in Boots” in 3D. Since I had seen the trailer I knew I wanted to see it, because we are crazy cat ladies and it occurred to the exact day my birthday was. We went to watch the original version OF COURSE, never dubbed in Finnish. No one else would’ve been better for dubbing the Puss in Boots than Antonio Banderas himself (like he dubbed it in “Shrek” –movies). I don’t even know who would think they can dub it in Finnish but I don’t think anyone can dub Antonio over properly. And original versions are always better.

Crappy cell phone quality – but I like the date. ;)

The movie was great! The movie was made very well with all the details, great music and the plot was nicely made. It amazed me how much cat-like things had been sprinkled in the movie, which showed at least some of them MUST have cats themselves. Even the little details (such as drinking) was so cat-like designed and made, which I guess would have worked like humans do (bottoms up!) but remaining those things like cats would do it (lipping it) remained the feeling those cats were actually cats even they walked on two feet – so there were nicely combined the best of the both worlds. There was so many things I see living with these furry girls every day. Oh, my three female fur balls would purr and sigh too if a cat like that would come behind our door. Puss’ boots would be thrown in the corner and the hat with the feather would be hanged on the door knob (if you know what I mean)... Me-wow!!

Later we opened sparkling wine and drank what we like to call “hömpsänkömppänä” (I have no idea how to translate that) which is something innocent boozed up – this time a smoothie from exotic fruit mix and booze.
I had put the number to the test and bought a stronger kind of alcohol. After checking it at midnight, it IS 20 years in Finland to buy spirits.

There’s no better thing that watch a movie in a movie theatre, there’s no better company than someone you love. What a nice birthday!

I've never realized that Lewis Carroll has the same birthday like I do (he's born 27 January 1832). If you so not know who he is, shame on you. He was an English author, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and photographer and his most famous writings are "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and its sequel "Through the Looking-Glass".
