Midsummer

Happy Midsummer's Day everyone!

Midsummer Day must be one of my favorite holidays. Not only because it’s the longest and lightest day of the year, but every holiday gives you a permission to eat and drink well!

My mom gathered together the most beautiful bouquet and brought it home. The smell of the fresh flowers were intoxicating!

The cats were also interested in about the bouquet... Way too interested! Haha.

Later we put on the grill and barbecued our own delicacies – only vegan delicacies for me, of course.

The dinner was very filling and good. And what can I say? I love food and I love to barbecue!

The Midsummer Day’s morning was beautiful and misty! Almost like a painting... On Midsummer Day I give myself some more leash and let myself to stay up later than usual. There’s nothing better than a night full of light when sun never sets and you can get to see the rise of the new day.

We had made the summer’s first sangria in the fridge to cool down and to absorb all the flavors from all of the fresh fruits well ahead of time! To me, sangria is a sign of summer!

Because it was a holiday and stores were closed and there was nowhere to go, we slept late – our cats are fascinating creatures for many reasons; one of them is that they tend to sleep when we do. They don’t fill almost any part of the cats’ manual for they are unique. And besides, tiredness doesn’t look at a place or time...

The Midsummer’s Eve and Day couldn’t gone any better! Only the weather could have been sunnier, but to be honest, even the rainy, cloudy days didn’t bother that much in the end. There’s still time for the sun to come out!

Midsummer Day

On the day before Midsummer Day, people seemed to go absolutely crazy over what they would buy – so everyone basically emptied the whole grocery stores... Most people seemed to pack their cars as full as possible and even beyond that so they could flee to their summer cottages from the hustle and bustle of the city. We decided to stay at home, because after everyone had gone to their summer cottages, the city was quite peaceful...

The morning started in a very colorful way for the sky seemed like it was on fire! In the morning and noon the sun peeked behind the clowds but went hidden there during the day. I was kind of waiting for sunnier day, but that didn’t really got me down at all!

The Midsummer Day went by nice and easy. We enjoyed the day at home with the cats. Nothing fancy.

Later we made hamburgers and spicy potato wedges. Eating them stretched quite late, though. But we weren’t actually even that tired for the whole night so it didn’t matter.

On Midsummer Days, you just have to stay up as late as possible to see the nightless night.
We were supposed to go and see were there any Midsummer bonfires (“kokko” in Finnish) but the clock was already so late that there must have not been any bonfires anymore...

I hope you all had a great Midsummer Day!

After Midsummer Day

So I had been stressing over Midsummer Day – how fast it will come and is summer over after it. The truth was that it didn’t come so fast and the summer is not over. In fact this June has felt so long already (which is goooood) and hopefully it’s not even over yet.

We didn’t have a plan to go anywhere special on Midsummer Day like on our relatives cabin or something. The Midsummer Day didn’t go right like I had planned it to – it kind of went by me. But we have been enjoying the days after it more than anything.

On the other day we just sat in the balcony, drinking rosé and eating fresh strawberries and peas and enjoying the day with talking and reading.

The cats were also enjoying the breeze outside in the balcony.

Later that night we made vegetable-tofu “ricotta” lasagna which was so good as always.

I was asked am I going to any festivals but I have to say I’m not a festival type of girl. I can’t be with hundreds or even thousands of people around me. So I’m planning to spend my summer with friends, out with people, enjoying it at the balcony and outside and I’m going to go to the picnic in this summer. I have truly enjoyed these days of summer and I will not think when it’s going to be over but I will just enjoy it with my fullest!
