Tampere's Art Fair 2013

* very picture heavy post *

Today we went to “Tampere's Art Fair” with my mom. The Art Fair was at Pirkkahalli which is only about 5 minutes ride from where we live. My dad had gave us the tickets to the fair and we were very excited about going there. It was three days long from Friday to Sunday and my dad was there at one of the stands on Saturday and Sunday so we decided to go there on Sunday. The fair consist of three parts; thriving at home career fair called "Kotivisio" where my dad was and it was at A-hall, Tampere's Art Fair at D-hall and buying and selling event of collectible items.

We went to the thriving at home career fair first and to say hello to my dad. We had reserved two hours to go round all three parts of the art fair. We wandered about the stands and filled up raffle coupons and made finds. We saw immediately which stands would please our eye and caught our interest.

I liked this lanterns text: “Believe in yourself. Look next to you. Remember your dreams. Look for love. Face your fears. Know you are alive.” (it’s in Finnish on the lantern itself). It would have been a nice purchase but was a bit too expensive.

After we had looked around the stands and made a few purchases we then headed to The Art Fair itself.

The first thing which caught my eye was this amazing photograph by Petri Nuutinen, and it was put under a glass. I thought it shape – not the boring square – made it even more interesting.

The next thing was these artworks by Timo Sälekivi. They were dark but still somehow that was why they caught my interest. The characters in the paintings reminded me of the Plague Doctor’s of Victorian England and ravens, which I absolutely love. I would like to either one of these some day in my own home – my mom protested, heh.

These two gorgeous paintings were by Sanna-Kaisa Niemi. I would like to have both of these also...

There were a gallery of Jukka Rintala. I’ve never really got into his work before but this gorgeous black dress would be a dream come true to have. And I really loved his designs drawn on paper – especially those three black ones, of course.

This artist I don’t really know but his works caught my eye for they were just made and were still wet. If I understood correctly this artist showed live on the screen how he makes his paintings. It was very interesting to follow his work.

And guess what we found next? Oh yeah, a wine bar! There was a bouncy man who suggested wines to us. We ended up having a sparkling wine called “Morando” and it blew my mind – it was good!

After our moment of relaxing with a glass of sparkling wine, we headed to see the rest of the galleries. I heard someone playing cello just like last year and it suited so well with the artwork.

This big beautiful painting was made by Johanna Oras. It mesmerized me how beautifully and really alive-like she had managed to paint the glass and the grapes and the fruits. I wish I could paint like that.

On the other end of the hall there were interior decorating side where there were rooms decorated beautifully. When I wondered where my mom had gone I saw that she was already there – I somehow knew that the interior decorating would suck her in. I followed her for there were chandeliers and beautiful ensembles.

I would like to curl up to that chair in the corner with a glass of wine and a good book. I gathered ideas from the ensembles then when I will move out one day I would have an exact idea in my head what I would want from my home – it’s still just playing with the idea of my own home but someday it is true. Maybe in a couple of years, I have planned...

This was lovely – the champagne cooler was beautiful but way too pricy. After filling in few more raffle coupons the clock was 5 already and it was time to leave – two hours was an absolute minimum we needed but more time would have been a nice thing, I just didn’t realize how fast the time goes by in a fair like this. Well, we would be wiser now for the next year.

After a quick stop at the grocery store (our record time, I dare to say) and we headed home. I enjoy the sunny Autumn days so much I can’t even put it into words. As we had left today I had seen a line of trees filled with golden yellow leaves and I just had to take a picture to catch the sight.

And here’s what I purchased from the Art Fair:

I fell in love with the white frame and even it has a pretty picture of butterflies, I knew exactly what picture I would put in in before I even bought it to myself. Picture of that later...

This is my new favourite necklace! When it caught my eye I had to buy it and put it on immediately. I have been watching it all day long, how pretty it is. I love the text in it.

I love lace and when I saw a bowl of monograms I was already there. I happened to find the first letter of my name and it was only 3 euros so I bought it. We already left the stand but when I managed to talk my mother over to get herself a monogram too, we went back there – we happened to find her name’s first letter too. Now only the imagination is the limit what we could do with them!

At the stand there was this painting which I think had a great text but still it didn’t leave home with me. I’m not suitable age group yet – I’m still at the “young & crazy” mode.

I love being more cultural and go to the fairs like this today, for example. And with a good company it’s even better! We have talked with my mom that this is exactly what we should do; go to fairs and exhibitions and to theaters and such. Sounds good to me! I had a great day today... A really good day.

“The Hangover Part III” Review

* this review doesn’t give you any more spoilers than the trailers *

This time I'm reviewing "The Hangover Part III". Sorry I couldn't review this movie earlier for it never came to the Finnish movie theaters - or then I truly missed it ever did, if it did. Now it's on Blu-ray and DVD I could watch it.

I had high expectations for this movie. I liked the first one a lot, the second one I didn't like and I had to watch three trailers of this third (and apparently final) movie to convince myself to watch it. I expected it to be funny - If not as funny as the first one but at least funny. The movie opening was kind of depressing than funny – I, at least, didn't find it funny. So my mood and expectations got lower and I expected it would be the same feeling than after seeing the second movie of this trilogy. But the movie had its ups and downs - basically about 20 percent of it is funny but the rest 80 percent, not that much. A few times makes you smile but you don’t really laugh during this movie. And I feel that I couldn't really get into the movie – that’s a shame. I just waited it to get really funny…

And now we are not even talking about a hangover, no one in this movie is having a hangover. The plot is as follows: after an intervention Phil, Stu and Doug decides to get Alan to get treatment to Arizona for he has been off his meds for six months. The trip doesn’t go as planned. A gangster named Marshall kidnaps Doug, for he wants to catch Mr. Chow, who has stolen 21 million dollars worth of gold from him and has escaped from prison. Now Phil, Stu and Alan needs to track Mr. Chow and get him and the gold to Marshall in three days or else he will kill Doug. And now the rest of the “Wolf Pack” members need to go back to Las Vegas where it all began. This makes this movie an excessively violent action comedy rather than a sequel to a wet night in Vegas and how to deal with it afterwards. That’s why this should not be a PG-12 movie (in Finland) but rather PG-15.

The movie got a tiny bit funnier towards the end but not enough. It ended well enough and I was happy with that BUT they had to ruin it with a short clip after the ending credits’ cast section. Oh hell no! It wasn’t funny! It was very disturbing – if you don’t want to ruin the feeling which you will be feeling after the movie BEFORE the ending credits, do not watch the clip! This movie was like a very bad rip off from the first movie without the hangover part and all… But without the funny parts. After watching this movie I felt like I could have used my 100 minutes to something better – like watching a good and actually funny movie instead. I first thought it would be okay if I would watch this for the second time and maybe it would then actually be funny but no, it won’t. I’ve seen this movie once and that was quite enough. It was better than the second one but that’s not a compliment - it was still bad. I will not buy this one in to my Blu-ray & DVD collection... No.

Director: Todd Phillips
Actors: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong and John Goodman
Genre: Comedy
Premiere: this movie never came up to the theaters in Finland
Length: 100 min
PG-12 (in Finland)

Thoughts About Being a Vegetarian

I still don’t know what made me turn into a vegetarian - lacto-vegetarian that is. I still can’t use eggs for the idea they come from inside a living thing repulses me – it’s like eating a human fetus. So what made me eat dairy products then? Maybe a whim? Milk itself on the other hand, repulses me and I can’t drink cow’s milk at all for I really like how the oat milk tastes like and I prefer that. I rarely eat yoghurt but since I turned vegetarian, it’s now all the same are they made from soy milk or milk. I like margarine better than butter – I don’t like the taste of butter. I never, ever use butter on my bread. I prefer soy and oat cream when making food and I don’t feel good using “regular” cream made from cow’s milk for it reminds me too much of the milk itself which repulses me – even I do use “regular” cream while preparing food if my mom has bought it and there’s nothing else in the fridge. It’s sometimes easier to use crème fraiche than to drained soy yoghurt which doesn’t taste the same in the end.

So what’s my weak spot then? Cheese. It has always been my weak spot. When I was vegan, I used soy based cheese a lot but the one and only taste of a product which has come from an animal has always been cheese, I’m afraid to admit. It was the one and only thing I missed while being a vegan. I also thought of making my own soy cheese before and even after I turned into a vegetarian just to get it right. But I don’t eat cheese without guilt – every day I imagine myself to go back to being a vegan so I could eat without guilt again. I know milk production is so cruel and that one of those awful videos of animals suffering would stop me from eating cheese but I hadn’t yet watched a video… That makes me feel bad.

I absolutely repulse everything (I mean everything) about meat and it feels sick to my stomach when I’m at the meat counter of the grocery store with my mom – all that red, raw, dead meat swimming in interstitial fluid and blood makes me actually sick. When I ate meat years ago I had always hated Mettwurst – it tasted like iron and all so wrong. I could never eat horse, rabbit, dove, lamb or reindeer – hell, I could never eat any meat again! It just saddens me that almost every animal could be turned into food... I’m so glad that people in Finland don’t eat cats or dogs or our very own pets – oh sorry, people do eat rabbits for example. Fuck. I’m so glad that the only meat I have ever eaten is beef, pork, chicken and tasted a tiny bit of lamb unfortunately. What the hell am I talking about!? I’m not glad of it! I could have eaten none of that meat to be honest. I have always thought “why didn’t I start my veganism or vegetarianism earlier?” It’s a shame really. I thought too much of what the others might think and the most importantly: would I will be allowed to be a vegetarian. I started to be a vegetarian when I was 17-years-old and after one year I turned into a vegan.

I absolutely adore Gordon Ramsay’s attitude but I don’t like his thoughts towards vegetarians (not to mention vegans then). I watch one of his shows, “The F Word”, among the other of his shows but even it’s entertaining show, it sometimes shocks me (maybe it’s the point sometimes) with all the slaughtering of the poor animals and I don’t like it to be shown on television – there’s no need to show it! There was one episode in particular I liked the most – there Gordon grew his own pigs (to be eaten, unfortunately) but after seeing a video how pigs are treated in the large production factories he said that he understands why someone would want to be a vegetarian – that was something he thought he would never say. I only wish he could hook on that thought. Wink wink. I didn’t like the episode where he came to his restaurant holding four goose by their feet and slamming them onto a table said to the cooks in the kitchen to make their livers to count for there isn’t much. Also what caught my eye was that there was a girl band “Girls Aloud” at the dining room and the other member was Cheryl Cole and she said that she was a vegetarian. She also said that she makes a good spaghetti Bolognese and when Gordon Ramsay asked the secret behind that Cheryl Cole actually answered that her secret is a bouillon cube – not very vegetarian now, Cheryl.

(watch the video on from the point 01:00 minutes on)

So. My weak spot is cheese but I hate eating meat and eggs and many other dairy products than cheese – and I don’t even like all cheeses, like goat cheese or blue cheese for example... Would I be a vegetarian forever, I don’t know. Maybe I will watch one of those videos about milk production (because I already know what it is like) and maybe I need to see what it is like so I could come back to the surface from my using of dairy products and start fresh with being vegan again. Maybe someday I will try to make my own vegan cheese and if it’s good enough maybe I will turn to vegan again – but the regular soy based cheese from the grocery store should be good enough to substitute regular cheese for me after all. Because I shouldn’t use any products came from an animal. I’m that (cheese) close to being vegan again... What day will that be?
